THE CASTLE OF QALAI MUGH

Qalai Mugh is located on the left bank of the river at the confluence of Zarafshan near the Qum inflow on top of a mountain area, east of Khayrobod village. The castle is fully excavated the remains are stretched from south to north – 18 meters long and 16 meters wide. Its walls are built of stone with clay mortar. The castle is rectangular in shape. On the north a large courtyard adjoins the castle the west side stretches up to 40 meters, while the northern side – 23 meters and the east one – 65 meters. The castle is known for its history according to Tabari in the 20’s of VIII century the ruler of Panj, Devashtich, was captured here in the 30’s of XX century famous Sogdian documents were excavated from its ruins.
